Hello young friends,
The indomitable human spirit was in full display at the Beijing Olympics. Michael Phelps creating history by winning eight gold medals in swimming, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt setting world records in both 100 and 200 meters races, India’s Abhinav Bindra winning the first individual gold for India, and the success of Sushil Kumar and Vijender Kumar against all odds, prove that there are no limits to an individual’s achievements. All that one needs is to dream big, have self-belief, set a time bound target and follow it up with a well-planned strategy. It is also important to be focused, determined and willing to pay a price for success in the form of sustained hard work and self-denial of the highest order.
Naturally, as you get trained in the sports academies, you will learn the rules of the game and acquire the required skills and techniques. However, the real purpose of your participation in the sports activities will be served only when you also acquire the true sportsman spirit, which is about giving your 100 percent and enjoying to the hilt, without getting unduly obsessed with winning.
If you win, well and good - in fact you should always start with the hope that you will - but even if you don’t, let it not dishearten you. Since you have no control over the outcome, the best thing you can do is to hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.
If you play sports with this spirit, your efforts will not go waste even if you do not become a national or an international champion!
